Abstract
Species of Mycosphaerella section Longispora are revised, based on the examination of type specimens. Among the 55 taxa of Mycosphaerella (including some in Sphaerella and Sphaeria) reported or found to belong to the section Longispora, only five are accepted here, all of them assumed to be saprobic. The accepted species are M. latebrosa, M. millegrana, M. populi, M. pteridis and M. topographica, which are primarily distinguished based on ascospore morphology and size. Two species are thus far known to be restricted to one host genus, viz. Populus or Pteridium, while the other three species have wide host ranges, including Populus and ferns.
