Abstract

A new species of Pylaisia (Pylaisiaceae) is described from Taiwan. Pylaisia buckii T.Y.Chiang & C.Y.Lin, sp. nov. The species is characterized by weakly differentiated stem- and branch-leaves with acuminate apices, well-differentiated alar cells, linear laminal cells, and long peristome teeth. Systematically, P. buckii is closely related to P. levieri. The new species differs in shape and form of leaves, length of laminal cells and exostome teeth, and diameter of spores. The species occurs in broadleaved forests on trunks and on fallen logs in the Central Mountain Range of Taiwan. Both the new species and its allied P levieri are illustrated with line drawings.
