Abstract
It has been over two years now since my father, Prof. Jiří Váňa is no longer with us. I wish to share some personal memories of him and his work for this special publication devoted to him. Not being a botanist I could hardly comment on his extensive scientific career which I was only witnessing indirectly through his personal comments or discussions at home. Neither am I able to extensively describe his personal life, especially in this short text. Following are thus just fragments from my rich personal memories about him.
