Abstract
Porella L. is a large genus with 86 species. Porella pinnata L., the type species of Porella, was originally described from Pennsylvania State, USA. It has been reported for Asia, America and Europe. In Asia this species was previously known only from China and South India. A taxonomic revision of the Chinese Porella reveals that the numerous records of this species from China are erroneous because the voucher specimens reported previously as P. pinnata are assignable to Porella chinensis (Steph. ) S. Hatt., Porella densifolia (Steph.) S. Hatt., P. gracillima Mitt., P. grandiloba Lindb., P. japonica (Sande Lac.) Mitt., P. oblongifolia S. Hatt., and P. platyphylla (L.) Pfeiff., respectively. The reports for India are also undependable. Therefore, Porella pinnata is proposed to be excluded from the liverwort flora of Asia.
