Abstract

In January 1992, the winter phenology of vascular plants has been monitored on the island of Thira (Cyclades, Central Aegean, Greece). 64 species of phanerogams were found in flower, 26 of them to more than 50 % of their actual populations. The general flowering aspect was dominated by the annuals Silene colorata and Senecio gallicus. Of 23 taxa, flowering in January had not previously been reported. Cases are discussed of flowering periods incorrectly given in regional basic floras. Arthrocnemum macrostachyum, Bellevalia hyacinthoides and Erophila spathulata represent floristic additions to the Santorini archipelago.
