Abstract
Four new associations from the limestone heath formation are described from South-west Australia. The Dryandro-Calothamnetum, Dryandro-Acacietum and Acacietum rostelliferae are linked in the alliance Dryandro-Acacion. The status of Pimeletum ferruginae is uncertain. Two levels of environmental influence account for the distribution of these associations. On a geographic scale, the northerly decrease in moisture determines the partition between the Dryandro-Calothamnetum, Dryandro-Acacietum and Pimeletum ferruginae. Microtopographic and edaphic factors, as well as the wind regime influence the distribution of sub-associations and variants. An abundance of species from the family Proteaceae distinguishes these heaths from those of South-east Australia.
