Abstract

Interest in vegetation mapping developed early in Argentina and continues to do so. Argentinian vegetation is now the best mapped of any Latin American country. Physiognomic information is common on the maps but floristic information is more important in Argentina than in any other South American nation. A number of examples illustrates the progress of vegetation mapping in Argentina from its early beginning to the present.
