Abstract
Geoconservation strategies should take into account six basic stages: inventory, quantification, legal protection, conservation, promotion and monitoring of geosites (Brilha 2005). The first two steps can be considered as geosites assessment and the following four as management (Pereira 2006). This work intends to discuss the conceptualisation regarding the geosite definition, especially in what concerns the criteria for the delimitation of its physical boundaries for which the scale issue is critical.
