Abstract
Modern geomorphological mapping started after World War II, and the IGU commission of Geomorphological Mapping and Applied Geomorphology was founded during the Rio Congress in 1968. Especially in Eastern Europe, a quick start was made, but because of restrictions on the free dispersal of published maps outside this area, little is known about the results and present state of systematic geomorphological mapping.
