The present monograph by the well-known Cretaceous researcher G. Nikolov explains the stratigraphy of the Lower Cretaceous in the Mediterranean region. Various facies have been found. The author describes the rich fossil finds in the sedimentation and compares them with finds in other regions. The author has also outlined the geological development in the Lower Cretaceous in the Mediterranean region and summarizes the paleogeographic development.

This work is the first summary made of a major Lower Cretaceous region. It is the outcome of long investigations in Bulgaria and many other countries.
