Lejeunea Lib. (Lejeuneaceae, Hepaticae) is a large pantropical genus with approximately 1700 described-species worldwide. Many of these are currently assigned to other genera or are synonyms. The present catalogue lists ca. 950 Lejeunea taxa described from Latin America with mention of the accepted name, countries of origin and bibliographic references. Based upon a screening of literature, only 165 species have remained in the genus Lejeunea. A brief history of Lejeunea and the state of knowledge of the genus in the New World are provided. This catalogue will serve as a basis for the revision of Lejeunea s.str. in the framework of Flora Neotropica.

(Lejeuneaceae, Hepaticae) es un género pantropical con aproximadamente 1700 especies descriptas a nivel mundial, muchas de las cuales estan asignadas actualmente a otros géneros 0 Son consideradas sinénimos. El presente catalogo enumera ca. 950 taxa descriptos bajo Lejeunea para Latinoamérica, con mencion del nombre aceptado, país de origen y referencias bibliograficas. En base a busqueda bibliografica, unicamente 165 especies permanecen en el género Lejeunea. Una breve historia de Lejeunea y el estado actual del conocimiento del género en América completan e1 trabajo. Este catalogo servirá de base para la revision de Lejeunea s.str. en el marco del proyecto Flora Neotropica.

This is a valuable catalogue of the species of the pantropical genus Lejeunea occuring in Latin America. From about 950 Lejeunea taxa described from the area 165 species have remained in this genus. All taxa are listed alphabetically; there is added a brief history of Lejeunea and the state of knowledge of the genus worldwide. The catalogue serves as a basis for the revision of the genus in Flora Neotropica.
