Abstract
The forelimb of Mixosaurus is re-described. The humerus is similar to that of other primitive ichthyosaurs but retains a quite “terrestrial” look of its proximal end. Numerous muscle scars are identifiable in a well-preserved specimen and tentatively interpreted. Ontogenetic and intraspecific variation is recorded. The forelimb of Mixosaurus bears closest resemblance to those of Utatsusaurus and Parvinatator and comes close to the ground-plan condition in ichthyosaurs.
Kurzfassung
Die Vorderextremität von Mixosaurus wird neu beschrieben. Der Humerus ist dem anderer basaler Ichthyosaurier ähnlich, das Proximalende behält aber eine entschieden „terrestrische” Konfiguration. Zahlreiche Muskelansatzflächen lassen sich an einem gut erhaltenen Stück identifizieren und werden versuchsweise interpretiert. Ontogenetische und intraspezifische Variationen werden dargestellt. Die Vorderextremität von Mixosaurus zeigt deutlichste Anklänge an die von Utatsusaurus und Parvinatator und kommt dem Grundplanzustand der Ichthyosaurier nahe.
