Abstract
A well-preserved crinoid assemblage comprising of cyrtocrinids (Phyllocrinus malbosianus, P. stellaris, Ascidicrinus pentagonus) and isocrinids (Isocrinus cf.perlatus) has been discovered and described for the first time form the Lower Cretaceous Korowa locality, Pieniny Klippen Belt (southern Poland). It was found that the temporal distribution of recorded crinoids is highly non-random: isocrinids are more common in the shallow-sea Berriasian sediments, whereas cyrtocrinids are much more numerous and diverse in the Valanginian deep-sea facies. Although the documented pattern of bathymetric distribution of both crinoid groups is difficult to interpret, it can be best explained as reflecting various ecological responses of both motile and sessile crinoids to their benthic predators.
