Abstract
This paper is devoted to the integrative analysis of taphonomical features of the Middle Jurassic localities (Upper Bajocian Niortense Zone) of the Northern Caucasus containing mixtures of plant macrofossils, microbiomorphs, cephalopods and bivalves. The localities are situated in the valley of the Kyafar River (Karachai-Cherkessia, Northern Caucasus, Russia). The present study shows that the strata of these localities were formed as a result of taphonomic mixing that includes remains of terrestrial organisms (higher plants) and marine organisms (ammonites, belemnites, bivalves) in submerged parts of large proluvial channels that transported masses of clastic particles from the Meso-Caucasus following intensive precipitation. The catenial distribution of the contained plant communities is discussed.
