Abstract
A Paleocene age based on planktonic foraminifera is attributed to the intercalations of carbonate rocks unconformably overlying the uppermost Maastrichtian and underlying the Middle Eocene at Jiran el Ful (Abu Roash structure). The depositional gaps (Maastrichtian to Danian, Danian to late Thanetian) are probably due to submarine erosion and not to subaerial denudation.
Kurzfassung
Die Kalkbänke, welche bei Jiran el Ful (Struktur von Abu Roash) zwischen dem obersten Maastrichtien und dem Mittleren Eozän liegen, gehören aufgrund der in ihnen gefundenen planktonischen Foraminiferen ins Paleozän. Die beobachteten Schichtlücken sind durch submarine Erosion und nicht durch subaerische Denudation entstanden.
