Abstract
Natrix longivertebrata known from the Polish upper Pliocene has been found also in the French middle Miocene. Very slight differences are observed between the Polish and French forms, but they do not justify specific distinction. Because of these differences the Miocene form is named Natrix aff. longivertebrata. Among snakes, this lineage corresponds to one of the most important, perhaps the longest, evolutionary stasis.
Kurzfassung
Natrix longivertebrata war bis jetzt aus den polnischen Jungpliozän bekannt. Dieselbe Schlange wurde nun auch im französischen Mittelmiozän gefunden. Zwischen den polnischen und französischen Formen wurden nur ganz geringe Unterschiede festgestellt. Im Zusammenhang damit wird hier die miozäne Schlange Natrix aff. longivertebrata beschrieben. Eine so lange phyletische Entwicklungslinie scheint bei den Schlangen ungewöhnlich zu sein.
