Abstract

The lithostratigraphic boundary between the Zechstein and the Bunter in the Federal Republik of Germany is placed at the base of the "Calvörde-Folge" (= base of the "Untere Folge" in the sense of Boigk = base of the "Gelnhausen-Folge" = base of the "Korbach-Folge" = base of the "Heigenbrückener Sandstein"). The "Untere Folge" (formation) of the Lower Bunter in the sense of Boigk (1959), excluding the "Bröckelschiefer", which is assigned to the Zechstein (resolution of the Subkommission Perm-Trias, May 4, 1991) is given the name "Calvörde-Folge"; the "Obere Folge" (in the sense of Boigk) is given the name "Bernburg-Folge". The "Myophorienschichten" are the uppermost lithostratigraphic unit in the "Röt" (upper Bunter). The "Grenzgelbkalk" is defined as the base horizon of the Lower Muschelkalk in the outcrop areas in southern Germany, Lower Franconia, southern and eastern Hesse, southern Lower Saxony, eastern Westphalia, Thuringia and the area north of the Harz Mts. This Boundary can be traced in the North German Basin on the basis of geophysical borehole logs.
