New advances in the geology and paleontology of the Vendían to Cambrian Arroyo del Soldado Group of the Nico Pérez Terrane of Uruguay

Abstract
This paper is a complement to the contribution of Gaucher et al. (1996). New outcrops of the Arroyo del Soldado Group are identified, and a preliminary map of its geographic extension is presented. This allows to precise the eastern boundary of the Nico Pérez Terrane, which is the Sierra Ballena Shear Zone. The surface of the Terrane is, therefore, considerably larger than expected. An updated list of microfossils of this Group is shown, containing 10 species of palynomorphs. 2 new components of the microbiota are described and 4 forms previously described as fossils are, in fact, contaminants. 5 morphotypes are regarded as dubiofossils. The age of the Arroyo del Soldado Group is confirmed to be Valdaian to Lower Cambrian, and the correlations with the Jacadigo and Corumbá Groups of Brazil are mantained.
Abstract
Esta contribución constituye un complemento al trabajo de Gaucher et al. (1996). Se identifican nuevas localidades del Grupo Arroyo del Soldado y se presenta un mapa preliminar de su extensión geográfica. Esto permite precisar el límite E del Terreno de Nico Pérez, ubicado en la Zona de Cizallamiento de Sierra Ballena y ampliando considerablemente su área de exposición. Se presenta una nueva lista de microfósiles del Grupo con 10 especies de palinomorfos. Asimismo se considera la presencia de 2 nuevos componentes de la microbiota y se eliminan 4 formas contaminantes descritos como fósiles previamente. 5 morfotipos se clasifican como dudosos en cuanto a su naturaleza fósil. La edad del Grupo se reafirma como Valdaiana a Cámbrica Inferior, asi como las correlaciones con los Grupos Jacadigo y Corumbá de Brasil.
Kurzfassung
Die Veröffentlichung von Gaucher et al. (1996) wird durch diesen Beitrag ergänzt. Die geographische Ausdehnung der Arroyo-del-Soldado-Gruppe ist durch neue Aufschlüsse erweitert. Das ermöglicht die Präzisierung der östlichen Grenze des Nico Perez Terranes, die als die Sierra Ballena-Scherzone identifiziert wird. Eine aktualisierte Zusammenstellung von Mikrofossilien der Arroyo-del-Soldado-Gruppe, bestehend aus 10 Arten, wird gegeben. Zwei neue Komponenten der Mikrobiota werden beschrieben. Ferner werden 4 beschriebene Formen als Kontaminationen erkannt. 5 weitere Morphotypen werden als dubios bezeichnet. Das Alter der Arroyo-del-Soldado-Gruppe ist als Waldai bis Unterkambrium bestätigt worden. Die Korrelation mit den Corumbá- und Jacadigo-Gruppen von Brasilien hat sich ebenfalls als zutreffend erwiesen.
