Systematic of some Oligocene Lagomorpha (Mammalia) from China

Erbajeva, Margarita; Sen, Sevket

Abstract

The lagomorph remains from San-tao-ho in Ordos, China, which were previously described as Bohlinotona pusilla, have been restudied. It appears that the material referred to this species contains in fact two different taxa: B. pusilla and Desmatolagus chinensis n. sp. They are differentiated by the smaller size and much more primitive dental pattern of the new species. In addition, the comparison of the specimens described as “Procaprolagus radicidens” shows that its dental features correspond in fact to the early stage of wear of Desmatologus gobiensis, and consequently it should be synonymized with the latter species.
