Abstract
The article is a monographic study of snowbed vegetation with domination of bryophytes throughout the Tatra Mountains (the Western Carpathians). Field studies were carried out in the years 2002–2014. Eighteen previously unknown typological units were distinguished, which included: two new alliances within the order Salicetalia herbaceae (Moerckion blyttii and Marsupellion condensatae) and four new plant associations (Pohlietum ludwigii, Marsupelletum condensatae, Pohlio nutantis-Fuscocephaloziopsietum albescentis and Bucklandiello sudetici-Marsupelletum emarginatae), as well as twelve subassociations. For each syntaxon, a floristic and habitat profile, as well as its distribution in the Tatra Mountains, is provided. A discussion about the status on snowbed phytocoenosis of the Tatra Mts in comparison with other European mountain areas is also included.
