Abstract
Syzygiella kerguelensis M.L.So & Grolle is described as a new species from Kerguelen in the southern Indian Ocean. Morphologically similar to the Asian S. ovalifolia Inoue of the subgenus Pseudoplagiochila, S. kerguelensis is separated from that species by having leaves almost as long as wide, dorsal base free from that of opposite leaves, trigones medium-sized to nodulose, cuticle smooth, and leaf margin entire throughout. An updated list of recognized species of Syzygiella is appended. Syzygiella quelchii Steph. is placed under the synonymy of S. manca (Mont.) J.B.Jack & Steph.
