Saurischian dinosaurs from the Upper Triassic of England: Camelotia (Prosauropoda, Melanorosauridae) and Avalonianus (Theropoda, ? Carnosauria)

Abstract
The holotype of the large prosauropod Camelotia borealis Galton from the basal Westbury Formation (Rhaetic, Upper Triassic) of Wedmore, Somerset, England is illustrated in detail. The femur has two synapomorphic characters of the Melanorosauridae, the lesser trochanter of the femur is sheet-like and the transverse width of the shaft at mid-length is greater than the antero-posterior width. The centra of the most anterior caudal vertebrae are tall but short, as in Melanorosaurus Haughton (Upper Triassic, South Africa), the probable sister group of Camelotia. These characters also show that Camelotia borealis is not a junior synonym of Plateosaurus engelhardti Meyer, the common large plateosaurid from the Upper Triassic of western Europe. The associated teeth of Avalonianus Kuhn are referred to the possible carnosaurian theropod ?Megalosaurus cambrensis Newton.
Kurzfassung
Der Holotypus des großwüchsigen Prosauropoden Camelotia borealis Galton aus der unteren Wetbury Formation (Rhaetium, Ober Trias) von Wedmore in Somerset, England, wird detailliert beschrieben. Das Femur hat zwei synapomorphe Merkmale der Melanosauridae: Der kleine Trochanter des Femur ist blattförmig und die transversale Weite des Schaftes ist auf die mittlere Längserstreckung größer als die antero-posteriore Weite. Die Zentren der meisten vorderen Schwanzwirbel sind groß, aber kurz, wie bei Melanosaurus Haughton (Ober Trias, Südafrika), die wahrscheinliche Schwestergruppe von Camelotia. Diese Merkmale zeigen außerdem, daß Camelotia borealis kein jüngeres Synonym von Plateosaurus engelhardti Meyer, dem verbreiteten großen Plateosaurier der westeuropäischen Ober Trias, ist. Zähne, die mit Avalonianus Kuhn in Zusammenhang gebracht werden, werden einem möglichen Carnosaurier-artigen Theropoden ? Megalosaurus cambrensis Newton zugewiesen.
