Abstract

The Cenomanian Sarvak Formation of SW Iran is known for its richness in (larger) benthic foraminifera, referred to as a megadiversity and hot spot area in the literature. Previously unknown, little known and some possibly new taxa are reported from one section located in the Izeh Zone. Included are three agglutinated conical larger foraminiferal species (Orbitolinidae, Coskinolinidae), Orbitolinopsis sp., Pseudorbitolina? sp., and Pseudolituonella? sp. that are described in detail. The present findings provide further elements for the biostratigraphy of middle-late Cenomanian shallow-water carbonates based on larger benthic foraminifera, highlighting biogeographic as well as some biostratigraphic differences between the Mediterranean and Middle East realms.
