Abstract

The subgeneric taxa of the genus Colchicum (including Bulbocodium, Fouha, Merendera, Monocaryum and Synsiphon) are listed with accepted synonyms. Four new taxa are described, i.e. Colchicum antepense, C. ignescens and C. lagotum from Turkey, and C. nanum from Corsica and Sardinia; in addition nine new combinations are made. Seven species are excluded from the genus. Types are designated for all names where possible, including some previously un typified Linnaean names.
