Kurzfassung
Die Beckenfazies des Buntsandsteins im nördlichen Vorharz besteht aus tonigen Playa-Sedimenten mit dicken Oolith-Bänken und bis 2,5 m hohen Stromatolithen. Die Termini „Oolith“, „Ooid“ und „Stromatolith“ wurden hier geprägt. Am Harzrand sind Milankovitch-Zyklen gut dokumentiert, während bei Göttingen eine rein sandige Fazies des Mittleren Buntsandsteins, die aus Ablagerungen mäandrierender und verflochtener Flüsse mit zahlreichen vertikal gestapelten Rinnen besteht, präsentiert wird.
Abstract
North of the Harz Mts., the basin facies of the Buntsandstein is composed of clayey playa sediments with thick oolite beds and up to 2.5 m high stromatolites. This is the type region for stromatolites, oolites and ooids as these terms were coined here. Milankovitch cycles are well exposed around the Harz. Near Göttingen, the sandy facies of meandering and braided rivers of the Middle Buntsandstein with many vertical stacked channels is presented.
