Abstract
The coleoid diversity of the Southern Germany and Lebanon plattenkalks is presented. Both deposits are dominated by vampyropod coleoids. Morphological comparisons suggest that the Upper Cretaceous (Cenomanian - Santonian) Lebanon fauna includes a mixture of almost unmodified (Trachyteuthis, Dorateuthis), slightly modified (Glyphiteuthis, Rachiteuthis) as well as strongly modified (Palaeoctopus) vampyropods compared to the Upper Jurassic (Tithonian) Solnhofen fauna. In both Konservat-Lagerstätten belemnoid coleoids are rare. There is no evidence for the presence of decabrachiate coleoids neither in the Solnhofen nor in the Lebanon plattenkalks.
