Abstract
The preserved parts of the left maxilla of the supposed stegosaurian dinosaur Priodontognathus phillipsii (Seeley) from the Upper Jurassic of Yorkshire (or possibly the Lower Cretaceous of Sussex) are ornithopod-like. However, the base of the lateral sheet is strongly concave transversely, so the maxilla probably extended laterally well beyond the tooth row as in ankylosaurs. The tooth crowns resemble those of the Lower Cretaceous nodosaurid ankylosaurs Priconodon and Sauropelta but are unique in having two subcrescentic denticulate cingula on the medial side. Priodontognathus is transferred to the Ankylosauria (family Nodosauridae).
