Abstract
This Special Issue of Meteorologische Zeitschrift is dedicated to the profiling of wind and temperature primarily by wind profiler radars. Fully accepted as research tools for several years, wind profilers are now starting to be used operationally. The papers in this volume reflect the state of the art in wind profiler development and their use in meteorology. In addition, it contains information about recent achievements with other remote sensing systems such as sodars and lidars, instruments that are used to complement wind profiler radars. All papers are based on contributions to the COST-76 Profiler Workshop 1997, which was held at Engelberg (Switzerland) in May 1997.
