Abstract
Knowledge about the influence of currents and waves on biogenic particles allows us to reconstruct character and intensity of water movements from ancient sediments. This is particularly important in rocks that lack indicative sedimentary structures (e. g. bioturbated sediments, hardgrounds). In the experiments, pelecypods, gastropods and echinoid shells were used to study the behaviour of single shells and shell accumulations.
