Early Miocene Tanaidacea (Crustacea: Malacostraca) preserved in amber from Chiapas, Mexico, with the preliminary descriptions of new taxa

Abstract
Three different taxa attributable to the crustacean order Tanaidacea were discovered in Early Miocene amber deposits at Chiapas, Mexico. These fossil taxa represent the first record of the Tanaidacea to be found preserved in Miocene amber and the first from the Western Hemisphere. One of the tanaidaceans, Discapseudes (Miodiscapseudes) chiapasensis Heard n. subgen, n. sp. belongs to the suborder Apseudomorpha. Extant populations representing several members of the genus currently occur along tropical and brackish coastal areas of the Americas. The other two fossil taxa from Chia- pas belong to the suborder Tanaidomorpha. One represents a new genus and species, Pseudopancolus minutus Heard; the other taxon is a single manca stage of an unknown genus and undetermined family. The other arthropod taxa co-occurring in the Chiapas amber deposits belong to brackish, freshwater and terrestrial species.
