Abstract
This paper is a refutation of Dzik’s (1978) hypothesis in which he claims that in ostracodes genetic isolation and - by implication - also speciation, are the result of the mode of ontogenetic development. However, speciation in ostracodes is mainly due to their ubiquity, i. e. their ability to live in a wide range of habitats, and to their susceptility to environmental changes. In addition, the long evolutionary history of the ostracodes contributes also to the large number of species.
Kurzfassung
Die von Dzik (1978) vertretene Hypothese, daß bei den Ostrakoden die genetische Isolation und damit die Artbildung durch die ontogenetische Entwicklung bedingt seien, wird abgelehnt. Bei den Ostrakoden beruht die Artbildung vor allem auf ihrer Fähigkeit, eine sehr große Zahl von Lebensräumen zu besetzen und auf ihrer Empfindlichkeit für Wechsel in den Lebensbedingungen. Die lange Entwicklungsgeschichte der Ostrakoden steuert ebenfalls zum großen Reichtum an Arten bei.
