Abstract
Certain macroevolutionary patterns and regional ecologic processes are not merely synchronized or have similar spatiotemporal scales, but appear to be causally coordinated. Coordination may be initiated by processes taking place during the assembly of large ecologic systems, touched off by environmental disturbance at critical thresholds of intensity and scope. From this point of view, most of the adaptive speciation in the Phanerozoic could have resulted from regional system replacements/reorganizations.
Kurzfassung
Bestimmte makroevolutionäre Muster und regionale ökologische Prozesse sind nicht einfach synchronisiert oder haben ähnliche Raumzeitliche Maßstäbe, sie scheinen kausal koordiniert zu sein. Die Koordinierung wird vermutlich verursacht durch Prozesse, die während des Aufbaus großer ökologischer Systeme stattfinden, ausgelöst durch Umweltstörungen mit kritischen Schwellenwerten in Umfang und Stärke. Aus dieser Perspektive kann man annehmen, dass die adaptive Speziation im Phaneroikum durch Austauschvorgänge bzw. Umstrukturierungen in regionalen Ökosystemen ermöglicht wurde.
