Abstract

In the course of our study on folicolous fungi, authors encountered an interesting hyphomycete on living leaves of Psidium guajava Linn, causing a leaf spot disease. Generally the spots were either marginal or apical. Isolations from such spots were yielded a pure culture of the fungus understudy. It yields a white colony and as the age proceeds a pin head like black dots appear through out the colony. Sometimes coremeal structures were also developed. The black dots on microscopic examination revealed it to be sporodochial structures. The conidiophores are irregularly racemosely branched into secondary and tertiary branches. The ultimate branches bear blastogenous conidia acrogenously. A search through the published literature on sporodochial hyphomycete, revealed no genus in which the above fungus could be placed conveniently. Therefore, it is described as a new genus and designated as Pseudohansfordia. Gen. nov.
