Abstract
Eight diatom samples from Papua-New Guinea have been investigated. 245 different diatom taxa could be found, most of them are cosmopolitan. Taxonomical problems of poorly known species are discussed, and 3 species (Gyrosigma moresbyana, Navicula loibl-sittlerii, Nitzschia novae-guineaensis) and one variety (Navicula viridula var. denselineolata) are described as new. In 8 plates 206 microphotographs show the most interesting or characteristic diatoms.
