Abstract
Grimmia incrassicapsulis B.G.Bell, an austral cool-temperate species, is recorded for the first time in the tropics. It was collected at an elevation of 4509 m a.s.l. at the summit of Mount Wilhelm in the Bismarck Range in Papua New Guinea. The species is described and illustrated, its name is lectotypified, and the global distribution reviewed and mapped.
