Cryptostome (ptilodictyine and rhabdomesine) Bryozoa from the Lower Devonian of NW Spain

Abstract

This paper provides taxonomic descriptions of 12 bryozoan species belonging to suborders Ptilodictyina and Rhabdomesina of the Order Cryptostomata from the Lower Devonian of NW Spain. They include three new genera with three species: Acanthostictoporella modesta n. gen. n. sp., Hilberocladia elegans n. gen. n. sp. and Protoascopora hispanica n. gen. n. sp., and eight new species: Intrapora hispanica sp. nov., I. armata n. sp., Orthopora sincera n. sp., O. simplex n. sp., Vidronovella intricata n. sp., Klaucena (Spira) devonica n. sp., Acanthoclema parva n. sp. and A. irregularis n. sp. One species is described in open nomenclature: Intrapora sp. The fauna shows palaeobiogeographic relations to the Devonian of North America, France and North Africa.

Kurzfassung

Der vorliegende Artikel beinhaltet taxonomische Beschreibung von 13 Arten der Bryozoen der Unterordnungen Ptilodictyina und Rhabdomesina der Ordnung Cryptostomata aus demUnterdevon von NWSpanien. Zu ihnen gehören drei neue Gattungen mit drei neuen Arten: Acanthostictoporella modesta n. gen. n. sp., Hilberocladia elegans n. gen. n. sp. and Protoascopora hispanica n. gen. n. sp., und acht neue Arten: Intrapora hispanica sp. nov., I. armata n. sp., Orthopora sincera n. sp., O. simplex n. sp., Klaucena (Spira) devonica n. sp., Acanthoclema parva n. sp. and A. irregularis n. sp. Eine Art wird in der offenen Nomenklatur beschrieben: Intrapora sp. Die Fauna zeigt paläobiogeographische Beziehungen zu dem Devon von Nordamerika, Frankreich und Nordafrika.
