Abstract
All known specimens of the fossil crocodile Pristichampsus are discussed. Only two valid species are accepted: the type-species P.rollinatii (GRAY) and P.hengdongensis (LI) n. comb. Both are placed in their own subfamily Pristichampsinae KUHN together with the Quinkaninae n. subfam. into the family Pristichampsidae EFIMOV. Quinkaninae is erected for the fossil Australian crocodile Quinkana with the two species Q.fortirostrum MOLNAR (type species) and Q.timara (MEGIRIAN). The skull and lower jaw features of Quinkana make this hypothesis more likely than their former separate status in the Mekosuchinae WILLIS et al.
Kurzfassung
Der Status aller bislang bekannten Exemplare des fossilen eusuchen Krokodils Pristichampsus und ähnlicher Formen wird diskutiert und eine Einordnung dieser Exemplare wird vorgeschlagen. Zwei Arten von Pristichampsus werden als valid betrachtet: die Typusart P.rollinatii (GRAY) und P.hengdongensis (LI) n. comb. Diese werden in einer eigenen Unterfamilie Pristichampsinae der neu errichteten Unterfamilie Quinkaninae gegenübergestellt und innerhalb der Familie Pristichampsidae geführt.
