Paleoenvironmental analysis and biostratigraphy of the Upper Jurassic Esfandiar Formation (East–Central Iran)

Bagi, Hoseinali; Tasli, Kemal

Abstract

Microfacies and paleoenvironmental investigations have been carried out on the Upper Jurassic Esfandiar Limestone Formation in the Pikuh Area, south of the Shotori Mountains (east-central Iran). Based on field studies and of thin-sections, seven facies types are distinguished. These facies characterize a sheltered interior platform setting for the Esfandiar Limestone Formation. Benthic foraminifera provide a direct age determination (Middle Oxfordian-Lower Kimmeridgian) for the Esfandiar Limestone Formation.
