Globigerina pseudoampliapertura Zone, a new Late Eocene planktonic foraminiferal zone (Fayoum area, Egypt)

Abstract
The Middle to Late Eocene succession of planktonic foraminiferal assemblages studied in four sections in the Fayoum area, Egypt, comprises a significant interval between the extinction of the spinose forms (morozovellids) characterizing the top of the Truncorotaloides rohri Zone and the first appearance of Globigerinatheka semiinvoluta. It is proposed to introduce a new biozone for this interval named the Globigerina pseudoampliapertura Zone which is attributed to the Late Eocene.
Kurzfassung
Innerhalb der Abfolge von planktonischen Foraminiferen des mittleren und späten Eozäns, welche in vier Profilen des Gebietes von Fayoum in Ägypten untersucht worden ist, findet sich ein größerer Bereich zwischen dem Aussterben der letzten spinosen Formen (Morozovelliden) und dem Erscheinen von Globigerinatheka semiinvoluta. Es wird vorgeschlagen, für diesen Bereich eine neue Zone, die Globigerina pseudoampliapertura Zone, einzuführen. Diese wird in das späte Eozän gestellt.
