Abstract
A new anthracothere, Libycosaurus algeriensis, is described from the locality of Bir el Ater 2 in the Nementcha Formation, North Africa. This small form is closely related to other North African species of Libycosaurus, and it allows to propose a late middle to early late Miocene age for the mammal fauna.
Kurzfassung
Aus der Bir-el-Ater-2-Lagerstätte (Nord-Afrika) wird ein neuer Anthracotheriide beschrieben, Libycosaurus algeriensis. Diese kleine Form ist mit anderen nordafrikanischen Arten von Libycosaurus nahe verwandt. Sie ermöglicht die Datierung der Säugertierfauna aus Bir-el-Ater-2 40 in den Zeitraum Ende Mittelmiozän /Anfang Obermiozän.
