A possible find of Endennasaurus (Reptilia Thalattosauria), with a comparison between Endennasaurus and Pachystropheus

Abstract
An isolated tetrapod humerus collected from the Norian (Late Triassic) of northern Italy is described and referred to the thalattosaur reptile Endennasaurus. The study reveals which modifications occurred in the morphology of the bone during ontogeny, and testifies that this reptile could have reached a greater size than previously suggested on the basis of yet known more complete specimens. The pattern of ontogenetic modifications of the humerus, as well as the morphology of several other skeletal elements of Endennasaurus, are very similar to what is known of the enigmatic reptile Pachystropheus, from the Late Triassic of Great Britain and Germany.
Kurzfassung
Ein isolierter Tetrapoden-Humerus aus dem Norium (Ober-Trias) von Norditalien wird beschrieben und dem Thalattosaurier Endennasaurus zugerechnet. Die Studie zeigt auf, welche Veränderungen des Knochens während der Ontogenese erfolgten und belegt, dass dieses Reptil größer geworden sein könnte, als es bisher aufgrund vollständigerer Stücke angenommen wurde. Das Muster der ontogenetischen Veränderungen des Humerus und die Gestalt einiger anderer Skelettelemente von Endennasaurus erinnern stark an das merkwürdige Reptil Pachystropheus aus der Ober-Trias von Großbritannien und Deutschland.
