Abstract
Phacopsis australis Aptroot & Triebel, a lichenicolous fungus growing on Paraparmelia and Xanthoparmelia species, is described as new to science from southern Africa. The species is characterized by superficial apothecia that are not cecidogenous. P. australis is close in ascospore shape to members of the P.oxyspora species complex, but differs from all known taxa in this group.
