Inhaltsbeschreibung

Die Arbeiten dieses Bandes sind dem Andenken an Friedrich Hustedt gewidmet, der am 1. April 1968 in seiner Vaterstadt Bremen verstarb. Die Mitarbeiter wollen damit einem Mann ihren Dank abstatten, dem sie in ihrer Wissenschaft verbunden waren, der für viele zum Anreger und Förderer ihrer Arbeiten wurde und dem sie sich freundschaftlich verbunden fühlten.
Wenn heute die Systematik der Diatomeen dasjenige Gebiet der Taxonomie der Algen ist, dessen Fundamente am sichersten gegründet sind, so verdanken wir dies weitgehend der unermüdlichen Arbeit Friedrich Hustedts, der es verstand, das Wesentliche analytisch zu erfassen und in der Synthese die Einzelergebnisse zu einem von phylogenetischen Vorstellungen bestimmten System zusammenzufügen, für dessen Ausstrahlungskraft zahlreiche Publikationen anderer Autoren Zeugnis ablegen.
